  • CommentaryThe video documents a video action at the 1979 Biennale of Sydney. Ulrike Rosenbach is rolling along the floor, circling an ancient tree in the national park in the city of Sydney, with its millions of inhabitants. The sun sets, its light is reflected in the windows of the surrounding high-rises. With the camera in her hand, the artist rolls past mirror sticks, destroying their mirror image with a sword. Circling slowly, she approaches the tree in a spiral movement, so as to wind up the camera cable. Culture and nature come together, with the artist using her action to reference an aborigine initiation ritual. Finally, as darkness falls, Rosenbach cuts through the camera cable.
