  • CommentaryAs was typical of the project in Indore, Eckart Muthesius’ design for the main staircase was fabricated in Berlin by Max Krüger. Even the marble flooring for both the interior and exterior of the palace was cut and polished by Marmor-Industrie Kiefer (Kiefer Marble Industry), Berlin-Tempelhof.

Eckart Muthesius was the son and student of Hermann Muthesius (1861 - 1927), the well-known architect, writer and founder of the ›Deutscher Werkbund‹. Hermann Muthesius is perhaps best known for his seminal work on English domestic architecture, The English House (1904 - 5). Eckart’s godfathers were the Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868 - 1928) and the Scottish painter and ›Arts and Crafts‹ exponent, Francis Newbery (1855 - 1946).
