  • Commentary›European Arts and Crafts 1927‹, a major exhibition by the Neue Grassimuseum, brought the museum instant fame in Europe. Between 1925 and 1927 it had been extended step by step to attain an exhibition space of 27,000 m2. About a third was used to present crafts. At the time, leading craftsmen and designers were represented in the museum. The museum is named after Franz Dominic Grassi (1801-1880) who left his hometown about 2.3 million Reichsmarks. With this money the city was able to construct numerous buildings, parks and monuments – including the Grassimuseum building.
